GRAPHIC WEST is an experimental exhibition series produced collaboratively with graphic designers to the west of (or outside of) Tokyo. The ninth event of the series will be a collaboration with the South Korean graphic designer duo of Choi Sulki and Choi Min, known professionally as Sulki & Min. The exhibition will focus on the ideas of the duo, who—although based in Seoul—are engaged in international, critical activities transcending the boundaries of conventional Korean/Asian design. They are constantly presenting high-level works in almost all areas that today's graphic designers are interested in—not only client work, but also production of works for exhibition, publishing activities, video/Internet production, translation/writing, and more. The exhibition will present an extensive selection of their works, from the mid-2000s when they started their activities to today.

Sulki & Min

Sulki and Min (Choi Sulki and Choi Sung Min) are graphic designers based in Seoul, South Korea. Their clients include the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA), Seoul Museum of Art, Asia Culture Center, BMW Guggenheim Lab, Munhakdongne, and Mass Studies. They have participated in numerous exhibitions in Korea and abroad, and their work is included in the permanent collection of MMCA, Gwacheon; M+, Hong Kong; Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, New York; Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris; and Victoria & Albert Museum, London. Sulki is an associate professor at Kaywon University of Art & Design, and Sung Min is a professor at the University of Seoul.

Curator

Tetsuya Goto
Designer, curator, editor. Associate professor, Faculty of Literature, Arts and Cultural Studies, Kindai University, and visiting professor, Design Department, Osaka University of Arts. With one foot in exhibition curation and writing activities, he’s also engaged in group-based production using a designer network spanning Asia and Europe. Editorial board member of JAGDA’s The Graphic Design Review. Author of the book Yellow Pages (SEIBUNDO SHINKOSHA Publishing). Currently writing a series MIRRORS on graphic design in South Korea for IDEA magazine. Exhibition design

NO ARCHITECTS
Co-supervised by Hiroshi Nishiyama and Keiko Okudaira.
2009: Completed studies at Graduate School of Kobe Design University. Began activities as nishiyamahiroshiokudairakeiko.
2011: Relocated office to Konohana Ward, Osaka, and established NO ARCHITECTS.
Current activities are based in architecture but cover a wide range, including design, installations, workshops, venue layout, and community development. Also engaged in interdisciplinary activities such as exhibition planning, and collaborations with musicians, artists, photographers, playwrights, poets, dancers, etc.
