Biography
Lars Müller was born in Norway in 1955. He moved to Switzerland in 1963 and studied graphic design in Zurich from 1975 to 1979. In 1981, he worked as assistant to Wim Crouwel at the legendary Total Design agency in Amsterdam. Crouwel awakened his interest in books and book design. While working as a self-employed graphic designer, Müller founded his publishing house in Baden, Switzerland, in 1983, focusing on books on architecture, design, typography, art, and photography. Josef Müller-Brockmann was his exacting teacher, and also a friend. With a team of ten employees, the Lars Müller design studio and publishing house are today based in Zurich. A passionate educator since 1985, Müller has taught at various universities in Switzerland and Europe and since 2009 as a guest lecturer at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design. He is currently the international president of AGI, Alliance Graphique Internationale.
